Miley Cyrus is back at the top of the Billboard 200. The singer’s 10th studio album, Bass Persuades, has debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. albums chart, giving her first chart-topping album in more than a decade.
The album earned 61,000 equivalent album units in the United States during the tracking week ending September 24, according to Luminate data reported by Billboard. The result places Cyrus at the summit of the Billboard 200 for the first time since Bangerz reached No. 1 in 2013.
The achievement marks another significant chapter in a career that has moved through Disney-era pop, mainstream chart success, rock influences and more experimental projects. Bass Persuades also becomes Cyrus’ sixth No. 1 album and her 16th Top 10 album when Billboard’s tally is taken across releases credited to Miley, Miley Cyrus and the Hannah Montana soundtrack projects.
A 13-Year Wait Ends at the Top

Cyrus’ previous Billboard 200 No. 1 came in October 2013, when Bangerz opened at the top of the chart. More than a decade later, Bass Persuades has brought her back to the same position.
The gap is notable because Cyrus continued releasing music during those years. Her 2023 album Endless Summer Vacation debuted at No. 3, while her 2025 project Something Beautiful opened and peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. The new album therefore represents a return to the summit rather than a return to the charts altogether.
Billboard’s reporting confirms that Bass Persuades is Cyrus’ 10th studio album. It was announced on September 1 and released on September 18, with the title track serving as the project’s first single.
The Numbers Behind the No. 1 Debut
The 61,000-unit opening was driven heavily by traditional album purchases. Billboard reported that 47,000 units came from album sales, while streaming contributed approximately 14,000 equivalent units.
That distribution is notable in an era when streaming frequently accounts for a large share of an album’s chart performance. The figures show that physical and digital purchasing remained an important part of the album’s opening week.
The chart race was also unusually close. Ella Langley’s Dandelion held the No. 2 position with nearly 61,000 equivalent album units, while Riley Green’s That’s Just Me opened at No. 3 with 60,000 units. The three albums therefore finished within a very narrow range at the top of the chart.

From Hannah Montana to a New Miley Era

Cyrus’ chart history stretches back to the Hannah Montana era, when the Disney franchise helped establish her as a global young star. Her subsequent career moved decisively beyond the character, producing major pop releases including Breakout, Can’t Be Tamed, Bangerz, Plastic Hearts and Endless Summer Vacation.
Bass Persuades arrives as another evolution in that trajectory. The project was released under the name Miley, rather than the full Miley Cyrus name, adding another layer to a campaign built around a new phase of her artistic identity.
The album also marks her first project for Atlantic Records after her move away from Columbia Records.
Why the Billboard Return Matters

A No. 1 debut does more than add another achievement to Cyrus’ résumé. It demonstrates that a major artist with a career spanning multiple generations can still generate substantial album demand after moving through several distinct phases of her career.
It also comes at a time when the economics of album consumption have changed considerably. Billboard’s chart methodology combines traditional album sales with equivalent units generated through track sales and on-demand streaming, meaning that today’s No. 1 albums can reach the summit through very different combinations of fan purchases and digital consumption.
In Cyrus’ case, Bass Persuades reached the top with a particularly strong contribution from direct album purchases, making the result as much a reflection of fan buying activity as streaming consumption.
A New Chapter at the Top
Cyrus’ return to No. 1 comes 13 years after Bangerz first took her to the summit, giving the latest chapter of her career a clear chart milestone.
With Bass Persuades now at No. 1, Cyrus has added another chart-topping album to a catalogue that spans her early Disney years, global pop success and more recent creative experimentation.
Whether the album’s chart run extends beyond its opening week remains to be seen, but its debut has already established one clear fact: Miley Cyrus has returned to the top of the Billboard 200.
