Instagram introduced its generative AI-powered background editing tool to U.S.-based users
Meta is developing a new image generation tool for Stories that will allow users to change the background of images using AI-powered prompts. The tool, which is still in development, will let users choose from pre-written prompts like “On a red carpet” or “Surrounded by puppies” or write their own prompts.
Once a user posts a Story with the new background, others will be able to use the same prompt to change the background of their own images. The tool is still in beta testing and is not yet available to all users.

Snapchat, a popular social media app, has released a new tool that allows paying users to create and send images generated by AI. This tool, called Dreams, is similar to other AI-powered image generation tools, but allows users to create images that feature themselves.
Additionally, in August, Snapchat released a feature that allows users to populate images with AI-generated backgrounds. This month, Meta, the company behind WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, also released AI-powered characters that can be used across its apps. These characters are powered by an AI model called Emu.
