The end of the world according to Isaac Newton: The letter in which he announced the ‘Apocalypse’ in 37 years’ time

Sir Isaac Newton

Several scientists, philosophers, and engineers have predicted when the world will end for us, but unfortunately, none of their predictions have turned out to be right yet.

Sir Isaac Newton, the famous British scientist, happens to be one of those people who have predicted the end of time.

Newton stood out as a particularly odd co-existence of esoteric biblical prophecy, occult beliefs, and a rigid, formal mathematics that not only adhered to the inductive scientific method, but also expanded its potential by applying general axioms to specific cases. Yet many of Newton’s general principles would seem totally inimical to the naturalism of most physicists today. As he was formulating the principles of gravity and three laws of motion, for example, Newton also sought the legendary Philosopher’s Stone and attempted to turn metal to gold. Moreover, the devoutly religious Newton wrote theological disquisition interpreting Biblical prophecies and predicting the end of the world.

So therefore, in this article, we are going to be looking at the viewpoint of Sir Isaac Newton concerning the end of our world.

When will the world end, according to Isaac Newton?

For the physicist, the end of the world will come in the year 2060, that is, in the 21st century. There would only be 37 years left to live if we took into account the writing he left in 1704. Of course, all these calculations are based on the Bible and religious writings and are not scientific.

He emphasizes that it would not be an “apocalypse” of death but the return of Jesus Christ, who would reign for a millennium, and the Jewish people would establish “a flourishing and eternal kingdom” in Israel.

Stephen D. Snobelen, an expert on Newton, explained at the time that it was a great surprise to many to discover that Newton was a believer, relying to the utmost on Bible prophecy.

In fact, Newton is not the only scientist who has dared to make apocalyptic predictions, since others such as Sir Martin Reese, one of the most prominent scientists of today, published a book entitled ‘Our Final Hour,” in which he argues that the human race has only a 50 percent chance of surviving the 21st century.

Some people, however, do not take these writings of Isaac Newton seriously: “These documents show a scientist driven by religious passion.” “By the desire to see God’s work in the world,” the conservative Yemima Ben-Menahem explained to the media in 2007.

“Newton was convinced that Christ would return around that date and establish a global kingdom of peace,” wrote Stephen D. Snobelen in 2003.
