The Vienna State Opera is the largest opera house in Austria, the center of musical culture. The Vienna Opera is known not only in Austria and Europe.
The Opera House was built in 1869 by the architect August Sicard von Sicardsburg. The interior decoration and interiors were designed by Eduard van der Null. The opening of the Vienna Opera (Wiener Staatsoper) took place on May 25 with a production of Mozart’s Don Juan.
And although the theater building was recognized as one of the best in the world in terms of acoustics and decoration, Emperor Franz Joseph did not like it very much. His unflattering review drove Eduard van der Null to suicide, and the architect August Sicard von Sicardsburg to a heart attack.
